Offer Buy Now, Pay Later to Your Attendees
When you enable Buy Now, Pay Later for an event, checkout shows Affirm, Klarna, and Cash App Afterpay alongside cards. You receive your payout up front — the BNPL provider pays EventPassHero, which flows to your Wallet exactly like a card sale. The buyer's installment plan is between the buyer and the provider; it is not your risk.
What the organizer needs to know
You get paid in full. There is no waiting for the buyer to finish their payment plan. The provider pays out on the same daily Stripe schedule as card sales, with funds typically clearing in about two business days.
The processing rate is higher. BNPL providers charge roughly 6% + $0.30 per transaction versus the standard 2.9% + $0.30 for cards. By enabling BNPL for an event you agree to cover that difference — approximately 3.1% of each BNPL order — out of your payout on those orders only. Card orders are completely unaffected.
The fee difference is itemized. Every BNPL order shows its exact fee breakdown in your reports and exports so you can account for it.
Attendees never pay extra. A buyer's order total on EventPassHero is identical whether they pay by card or choose an installment plan. The cost of BNPL comes out of your payout, not out of the buyer's pocket.
How to enable BNPL for an event
BNPL is toggled per event inside the event's ticket setup. Open the event in your organizer dashboard, go to the Tickets tab, and look for the Buy Now, Pay Later option in the checkout settings. Toggle it on before your event goes live — buyers see the installment options automatically once it is enabled and their order total falls within the provider's eligible range.
Your Stripe Connect account must be active before BNPL orders can process. If you have not connected Stripe yet, see Connect Stripe and get paid.
What happens on a BNPL refund?
If you approve a refund on a BNPL order, it is processed back through the same provider. The provider cancels or adjusts the buyer's installment plan and returns anything already paid — typically within 5–7 business days on the provider's timeline. The refund works from your dashboard the same way as any other refund.
Troubleshooting
- BNPL options not visible at checkout — buyers only see the options when the event has BNPL enabled and their order total is within each provider's eligible range. The options are also suppressed if your Stripe account has a status issue.
- BNPL fee difference in payout reconciliation — this is expected. Each BNPL order shows the higher processing rate, itemized separately from card orders. The payout reconciliation report breaks down fee differences per order.
- A buyer says their plan was declined — the approval decision is made entirely by the BNPL provider based on its own criteria. EventPassHero does not see the reason or influence the outcome. The buyer can complete the purchase with a card instead.
