Why Are You Not Here? is a reality show about a poet, Bertrand Boyd II, who travels to Ethiopia for the African Diaspora Poetry Slam.

On his way to the slam, he discovers his childhood sweetheart cheated on him. When he arrives to Ethiopia, he’s heartbroken, disenchanted with poetry and very depressed.

Through visiting unbelievably gorgeous sites, meeting seemingly flirtatious women and experiencing an overwhelming peace. Ethiopia gives him a new reason to breathe
